What is the difference between the 14-days and 17-days summer schools? All Summer Schools programmes spend 2 weeks in Cambridge. If you have chosen a 17-days Summer School, you will have extended educational visits to other part of the UK after completing the 2 weeks in Cambridge. Are there any entrance requirements to attend the summer school? Yes, all courses have entrance requirements. Applicants are usually required to have achieved a minimum grade A in at least 3 subjects at IGCSE (or equivalent) level. If English is not your first language, you will also need to meet our English language requirements. Your personal statement and a teacher's reference letter will also help us with assessing your application. You can find out the requirements for each of our programmes here. How should I complete the visa application about my course? The check-in time is 15:00-22:00 on the first day of your course. You should report to the Porter’s Lodge at the following address: Memorial Court, Queen's Road, Clare College, Cambridge CB3 9AJ, UK The check-out time is 08:00-12:00 on the final day of your course. When is the deadline for application? Cambridge International Academy accepts students on a rolling basis. Applications are open until places are filled. The deadline for fee payment for online courses is 1 week prior to the start of the course. The deadline for fee payment for the residential course is 2 weeks prior to the start of the course. If you need a visa to enter or study in the UK, the deadline is at least 60 days prior to the start of the course. What type of certificate will I get? All certificates have at least three categories: distinction, merit and pass. The category of your certificate is determined by your performance, contribution and the objectively assessed standard of your work. Will I receive a certificate for my course? Upon successful completion of a course, each student receives a certificate issued by Cambridge International Academy. I live in a non-anglophone country, how will I access books and articles in English for the Online Research Essay Project? Your seminar teacher and supervisor will be able to help you access the materials you will need to conduct your research / literature review. What is the difference between the Online Research Essay Project's winter and summer terms? Both the winter and summer terms have the exact same content and numbers of seminars and supervisions. The only difference is how long it takes to complete the project. The winter term is conducted over 12 weeks, while the summer term is held over 8 weeks. What is a ‘viva’ and how does this part of the evaluation for the research project work? For the viva you will put together a short presentation explaining the problem or issue you have been researching, and what you have discovered. Your fellow students and teachers / supervisors / invited guest(s) will have the opportunity to ask questions about your findings. Presentations are scheduled for the end of the course. The viva makes up 10% of the overall mark for your course. You will be given guidance to prepare for this during the course. What technical specifications and online platforms will I need for the Online Research Essay Project? Current requirements are that you will need access to a device capable of joining zoom meetings for your seminars (group sessions) and supervisions (one-to-one sessions with your supervisor). We recommend using a ‘wired’ connection (ethernet cable) rather than WiFi if possible, to ensure the most stable connection possible. You may find it useful to have a headset with a microphone too. I have been awarded a 'Course Scholarship' of £500. How can I use it? Congratulations! You can use the scholarship certificate to deduct £500 off any courses we offer. Is there a registration or deposit fee? Yes, there is a non-refundable registration fee of £980 for our Summer Schools. You will only be asked to pay for the registration after we have confirmed that you have passed our admission assessment. Please note that the registration fee forms part of the total fee for the programme. It will be deducted from your final fee. Are there any free seminars I can attend? Cambridge International Academy holds a number of free online seminars throughout the year. Topics include: study skills, cultural understanding, university admissions, and many others. You can sign up for our newsletter or follow us on social media to receive updates on these. How do I travel to the UK? You can travel to the UK by any means of transport: such as airplane, train, bus, car or ferry. Please make sure you have the adequate legal documents for travelling to the UK, such as valid passport and / or valid visa. You will be issued with a Visa Support Letter after enrolment should you require a visa for studying with us in the UK. However, Cambridge International Academy has no connection, or other institutional or organisational association with the University of Cambridge or any of its associated colleges. Your family in Cambridge Safety first A 10pm curfew is set for students under 18, after which they may not leave their rooms. Female and male students are housed separately. Trained staff All staff are qualified and have undergone ‘Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service’ checks to ensure that they can work with under 18 year olds. Daily activities Alongside classes, daily briefings and activities allow the groups to get to know each other in a relaxed, sociable environment. Activities and Residential Officer Our personnel are always there to support and listen. A group of 12 students maximum are assigned per mentor. Expert teaching You will be taught by lecturers and researchers from the University of Cambridge. Friends for life An opportunity to meet like-minded students from around the world and make life-long friends. FOOD AND ACCOMODATION Two students share a room with an en-suite bathroom in a Cambridge college’s residential building. This is where Cambridge students live during term-time. These rooms are secure and located within the College grounds (protected 24/7 by the Porters in the Porters’ Lodge). All courses include three meals a day. All meals are provided by the College’s self-service student cafeteria. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are all served with a range of hot dishes. Students will also have the opportunity to attend a formal: a candlelit 3-course meal provided in the College’s traditional dining style.
