University Taster Summer Schools

Activities & Trips

While we believe in working hard, we equally value having fun. That’s why, alongside your studies, you’ll participate in a range of educational, cultural, and fun activities.

Our activities and trips are led by our dedicated Activities & Residential Officers (AROs), who help students connect, bond, and build lifelong friendships.

Cambridge Colleges

Each day of your summer school, our AROs organise guided visit to 1-2 of Cambridge’s 31 renowned colleges. Each college varies in size, location, and architectural style—ranging from historic to more modern designs—offering a diverse glimpse into the unique character of each college. This experience is invaluable for those considering an application, as it provides a firsthand look at the different colleges, helping you make more informed and personalised decisions about where you might want to study.

Evening Activities

With the sun setting well past 9pm in summery Cambridge, our AROs lead a variety of active and fun evening activities to keep the excitement going. Enjoy a classic punting trip on the River Cam, or get to know your fellow summer school students better through games of football or croquet on Parker’s Piece. Take part in a thrilling scavenger hunt, or put your detective skills to the test in a Cambridge-themed murder mystery. These engaging activities are designed for everyone to participate, and you’re encouraged to bring your own ideas for even more fun!

University Visits

Trips to other top universities: UCL, LSE, and Imperial College, allow you to explore the diverse campus environments that the UK has to offer. You will attend admissions talks led by university officers and gain insider insights from student ambassadors who will guide you on campus tours and share their firsthand experiences of student life. These visits provide a unique opportunity to get a feel for each university, ask questions, and broaden your understanding of the academic and social landscapes at some of the UK’s leading universities.

London Sightseeing

Embark on an exciting day trip to London, where you’ll explore some of the capital’s most iconic landmarks. Guided by our AROs, you’ll wander through historically rich streets, soaking up the vibrant and dynamic atmosphere of this incredible city. If the weather is warm, take a moment to unwind with an ice cream in one of London’s beautiful parks, enjoying a relaxing break amidst the bustling surroundings. This day is all about immersing yourself in the culture, creating unforgettable memories, and experiencing the lively spirit of London with your newfound friends.

Outdoor Team-buildings

The outdoor team-building adventure day is designed to push you beyond your comfort zone, create unforgettable memories, and foster strong bonds with your fellow students. Begin the day by teaming up to build a buggy and race against other groups in an exhilarating competition. Try coening, and see which team comes out on top—if you manage to stay dry, you might even dare to take the plunge and jump into the river! This action-packed day is filled with excitement, challenges, and opportunities to grow, all while making lasting connections and memories.

Formal Graduation

At the end of our summer school, we will celebrate your achievements with a special ceremony where you will receive your Certificate of Completion. This will be followed by an unforgettable three-course formal dinner at a Formal Hall where you’ll enjoy a memorable evening dining with our staff and your new friends from around the world, celebrating your hard work and the connections you’ve made. It’s a perfect way to conclude your summer school experience with lasting memories and friendships.
